The ban on the use of the iPhone will not be extended to all citizens of Russia, since there is no full-fledged alternative to this gadget today. “The bans apply only to official communication and data transfer. <...> If it is more convenient for a citizen whose activities are not related to public service or critical industries to use this device, then the ban is irrational. Today, there is no full-fledged alternative to the iPhone from a user point of view,” the deputy said during a speech at the New Media Workshop educational program.
Khinshtein added that the iPhone is more convenient and functional for him than other gadgets, despite all the vulnerabilities of the Apple device. At the same time, the authorities “do not fully understand all the possibilities” of the American corporation that relate to data collection, Khinshtein noted. According to him, there are questions about the security of smartphones on Android.
In June, the FSB informed about the disclosure of a US intelligence campaign using a virus on Apple mobile devices. In addition to Russian users, the special service also found a virus on the gadgets of foreign subscribers using SIM cards registered with diplomatic missions and embassies in Russia.
