The next stop for the Khabarovsk team is sunny Sochi and a match with Dmitry Kokorev’s squad. Before this, the Leopards played two home games with Dynamo Moscow and lost both. It’s interesting that even earlier the southerners were able to beat St. Petersburg SKA. In a word, the “tigers” were faced with a difficult, unstable team with strong motivation – to score points before the meeting with Avangard and the subsequent departure. And yes, Amur has not played against Sochi this season either. A kind of cat in a poke.
To allow his goalkeeper to recover his nerves after the defeat in Ufa, Andrei Martemyanov put Igor Bobkov in the goal. And, by the way, he released Kirill Panyukov onto the ice – Avangard striker who just recently arrived at the Khabarovsk team and already on the exit list. And I must say, the “tigers” coach was right – Kirill proved that the money they gave for him was not in vain.
In the first period, both teams were active, but it was the guests who distinguished themselves. At the 7th minute, “Amur” managed to position itself in the opponents’ zone and launch a positional attack. The puck came to Alexei Volgin, who had returned to the lineup, and he shot from the point and hit the open corner. Khabarovsk took the lead. In the second period, Sochi tried to win back, but already in the 28th minute, Amur newcomer Kirill Panyukov scored. The striker corrected Cameron Lee’s shot and opened the scoring for his goals in Amur. It’s interesting that the Sochi team slightly beat the Khabarovsk team in terms of shots on target, but were unable to score.
The hosts scored the first goal against Igor Bobkov using a power play in the third period. No, formally he was scored in equality, but Viktor Baldaev, who was serving a penalty, barely had time to roll up to the scene of action. He scored, or rather put the puck on target after the Khabarovsk goalkeeper, Matvey Michkov, failed to record it. Before this, “Amur” survived in the “Three vs. Five” and “Four vs. Five” formats.
It seemed that Sochi was returning to the game, but Khabarovsk did not allow it to do so. First of all, a courageous game in defense. In a desperate attempt to win back, the coaching staff of the southerners removes the goalkeeper, and 25 seconds before the final siren, Egor Korshkov throws the puck into the empty net. The final score is 1:3 in favor of Amur.
It’s interesting that the newcomer, Kirill Panyukov, was recognized as the best player of the match.
“Of course it’s always nice to win. The guys helped and supported. Super. The game wasn’t easy, before that we were short-handed three-on-five, we didn’t start the third period very well, but we held out, endured and won,” he shared his impressions Amur’s new forward.
The Khabarovsk team’s coach especially noted his team’s desire to win and the good performance of the goalkeeper, which helped not to waste the gained advantage.
“An interesting game, I think that high-quality hockey was demonstrated by both teams. No one wanted to lose, no one wanted to concede, but we understood perfectly well that the opponents had played two very difficult matches recently and still relied on the first shifts. Somewhere the game advantage was on our side, but there was one “but”: there were enough skilled guys in Sochi, they attacked very dangerously – thanks to our goalkeeper here, he kept us constantly in the game. It was a difficult match, but we defended ourselves, and I will say again that the goalkeeper played well. The ending of the match, I think, was in favor of Sochi, they played more aggressively. But the guys caught a lot of pucks today, I thank them for their dedication,” noted Andrey Martemyanov, head coach of HC Amur.
In its turn Dmitry Kokorev, coach of HC Sochicomplained about the weak start of the match and promised to look into the reasons why this happened.
After the victory in the south “Amur” returns home and begins preparations for the match with Lokomotiv, the game will take place on Monday, November 6.
