The defendants in the criminal case on the terrorist attack against the Russian A-50 aircraft at the Belarusian Machulishchi airfield may face the death penalty, informed Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of the KGB of the Republic Konstantin Bychek on the air of ONT.
In accordance with the legislation of Belarus, he noted, all members of an organized group are recognized as perpetrators, regardless of their role in the crime.
“In this regard, all the defendants in the criminal case were charged under Part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (an act of terrorism committed by an organized group). The sanctions of these articles provide for punishment up to the death penalty,” said Bychek.
In total, as the TV channel notes, there are about 30 people on the list of defendants in this case.
March 7 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko informedthat the Belarusian security forces detained a terrorist and his accomplices who were trying to destroy a Russian A-50 early warning and control aircraft at the Machulishchi airfield near Minsk.
Then the Belarusian president said that the detainee was a citizen of Russia and Ukraine, in 2014 he was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Six or eight months ago, Lukashenka claimed, the SBU and the CIA launched an operation “against the Republic of Belarus”, and a well-trained terrorist was sent to the republic.
Later it became known that the saboteur Nikolai Shvets, detained in Belarus, acknowledged work for the SBU. The KGB of Belarus, in turn, stated that the involvement in the organization of the terrorist attack of the operational staff and the leadership of the SBU was established. In the preparation of the attack were involved, among other things, “fugitive Belarusians” who advocate the overthrow of power.
