In Kazakhstan, the Ombudsman’s Office has come up with a proposal to criminalize bride kidnapping. This was reported in the press service of the Ombudsman.
Thus, it is proposed to introduce a separate article for such cases and delete the note to article 125 “Kidnapping”, which provides for exemption from punishment in case of voluntary release of the victim.
“In addition, the commissioners sent a proposal to introduce a separate article 125-1 “Kidnapping a person for the purpose of marriage” into the criminal code,” they added, noting that this would reduce the level of crime against women.
The Prosecutor General’s Office supported this initiative. It is also noted that there are similar articles in the Criminal Code of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
