Deputy Minister of Education of Kazakhstan Edil Ospan said that the country’s authorities are considering the possibility of opening joint Russian-Kazakh schools in the Russian border regions. Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made such a proposal.
Mr. Ospan, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Kazakh Senate, said that the issue of opening schools in several constituent entities of the Russian Federation is now being “worked out.” According to him, schools will be built on the principle of parity: the Russian authorities will build several educational institutions in Kazakhstan, Kazakh ones – the same number in the Russian Federation, he notes Sputnik Kazakhstan.
In particular, within the framework of this program, three schools teaching in Russian may appear in the south of Kazakhstan (in Turkestan, Kyzylorda and Zhambyl regions). In which Russian regions the opening of schools teaching in Kazakh is being discussed is not specified.
