Kaspersky Lab reported a 37-fold increase in attempts to switch to phishing resources

In January 2023, Kaspersky Lab blocked 151,000 attempts to switch to phishing resources imitating Telegram. About it informs company press office.
“This is 37 times more than in the same period last year, and is almost half of the total number of such attempts for the whole of 2022 in Russia,” the press service said.
IT specialists noted that the growth of phishing attacks has been recorded since November 2022. As explained by the company, the purpose of fraudsters is to gain access to the user’s account. To do this, they lure out a phone number and a verification code. Then the attackers can use the account to steal confidential data, blackmail, send spam, etc.
One of the most common schemes is a request to take part in the voting. Also, scammers often offer to test a Telegram premium subscription for free, Kaspersky Lab said. They urged users to set up two-factor authentication and not follow suspicious links, so as not to fall for the tricks of intruders.
In January, Kaspersky Lab told about another scheme for “hijacking” an account in Telegram. The scammers sent out messages with an offer to familiarize themselves with a fake list of citizens who would allegedly be sent for mobilization on February 1-3, 2023. After clicking on the link, users were lured into the login details of the messenger.
