Kartapolov: a new wave of mobilization due to the departure of Wagner is not needed

There is no need for a new wave of mobilization against the backdrop of the departure of Wagner PMC fighters from the special operation zone now and will not be in the near future. This statement was made by the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrei Kartapolov, transmits TASS.

“There is a planned recruitment of military personnel for a contract, a planned formation is underway [воинских] formations and units, including the reserve, their preparation. There is no need for mobilization today and in the near future,” the deputy stressed.

Kartapolov also ruled out the possibility of a “decrease in combat potential.” According to him, there is no such threat “neither in the medium term, nor even in the long term.” The deputy explained that during the mutiny, Wagner fighters were not “at the forefront”, they were in camps, and the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “was practically without their participation.” Kartapolov noted that PMCs “have something and who to replace them with.”

On the night of June 24, an armed rebellion was attempted in Russia by Wagner PMC and its founder Yevgeny Prigozhin. In the evening, the Kremlin reported on the agreements reached with the founder of the PMC to de-escalate the situation, in which Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko played a key role.

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, specified that the criminal case initiated against Prigozhin would be terminated, and he himself “would go to Belarus.” Wagner soldiers and commanders will be able to conclude contracts with the Ministry of Defense and other law enforcement agencies, or, if they make such a decision, also go to Belarus, declared Russian President Vladimir Putin.
