Valery Karpin said that if the Russian football team is allowed to participate in international tournaments, he will not combine the post of head coach of the national team and Rostov.
“If we are returned tomorrow, then I will leave Rostov. There is an agreement,” Karpin said at a press conference before a friendly match with the Kenyan team (quote from “Match TV”).
He also commented on the statement of former Spartak Moscow football player Alexander Mostovoy that the Russian team does not win matches because Valery Karpin combines two posts.
“I laugh. What kind of logic is there? He says it’s not there anywhere? Is the team banned somewhere? When the national team was not banned, I coached in the national team,” said the coach.
Valery Karpin has coached Rostov since 2017. In July 2021, he was appointed head coach of the Russian national team, and in August he left Rostov after defeat in the first two rounds of the Russian championship. In March 2022, he returned to the club, combining two positions. The Russian national team is suspended from tournaments under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA and plays only friendly matches.
