Anna Kalinskaya beat American Taylor Townsend in the second round match of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournament in Indian Wells. The game lasted 2 hours 23 minutes and ended with a score of 7:5, 3:6, 6:4 in favor of the Russian. In the third round she will play with Italian Jasmine Paolini.
25-year-old Kalinskaya is ranked 25th in the ATP rankings. Her best Grand Slam result was reaching the quarter-finals of this year’s Australian Open, but she lost to China’s Zheng Qingwen 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 1-6.
The tournament in Indian Wells belongs to the WTA 1000 category. It is held on a hard surface and will last until March 17. Its prize fund is $9.5 million. The last Russian woman to win it was Elena Vesnina in 2017.
