Astrophysicists from Baltic Federal University took a picture of a supernova explosion in the galaxy M101 located near the Milky Way.
M101 is also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy. The distance between it and the Milky Way is about 2 million light years, that is, by the standards of galaxies, it is located close. The supernova explosion, which received the index SN 2023ixf, occurred on May 19.
The image was composed of dozens of frames from an astronomical camera.
