According to investigators, in 2022, Igor Baryshnikov posted on his page on the social network publications about alleged shelling by the Russian Armed Forces of settlements and civilian objects in Ukraine, as well as hostile acts of violence against the civilian population during a special military operation.
The decision to initiate a criminal case for the dissemination of knowingly false information was made on the basis of the materials of the operational-investigative activities of the FSB of Russia in the Kaliningrad region and the regional center for combating extremism.

Consideration of the first criminal case in the Kaliningrad region for spreading fakes about the Russian army, in which Igor Baryshnikov became a defendant, began in the fall of 2022. The interests of the activist were represented in court by lawyer Maria Bontsler. According to the message “New Kaliningrad”, In June 2022, the court fined the defender 60 thousand rubles. for discrediting the Russian army. The publication also reports that, according to Maria Bontsler, the attending physician confirmed that Igor Baryshnikov had an oncological disease, from which the convict could die in custody.
