Kalashnikov magazine published pictures of the modified AK-12M1 assault rifle

Journal “Kalashnikov” presented photographs of the AK-12 model modified as a result of the use in the zone of military operation. An updated version of the assault rifle, the AK-12M1, will enter service this year.
The changes that, according to the magazine, were implemented in the AK-12 model 2023:
- the brake-compensator with a bayonet mount has been replaced with a slotted flame arrester, on which a low-noise firing device can be installed;
- reinforced forearm, which is less prone to overheating during intense shooting;
- a new front sight, the technological changes of which the magazine will report in a large review;
- new diopter with a choice of three settings: direct shot, low light and 600 m;
- a new safety mechanism with a double-sided flag, which, in the “safety on” position, closes the cut in the receiver cover;
- new fire control handle integrated with the trigger guard;
- the triangular stock was replaced with a fully polymer L-shaped one.
Director General of the Rostec State Corporation (owns the Kalashnikov Concern) Sergey Chemezov said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the AK-12 has been significantly improved based on the results of its use in the zone of military operations. According to him, the machine has become much more convenient and ergonomic.
AK-12, developed in 2012, was upgraded in 2016 and 2020. With the start of the military operation, the modernized AK-12s of the 2020 model are being actively supplied to combat units to replace the old AK-74 and AKS-74 models. As wrote magazine in October 2022, the AK-12 entered service in some units with mobilized. In particular, paratroopers, motorized riflemen, artillerymen and engineering troops.
