Kadyrov denied his resignation as head of Chechnya

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said on his Telegram channel that he had no right to leave his post “just like that,” without asking the people and the president. He urged “to stop talking” about his indefinite leave and said he intended to break the record for the longest tenure as governor. Previously, Mr. Kadyrov, on the contrary, informedthat his “time has come”.

“In fact, I don’t have the right to just leave, of course. The people entrusted me with the leadership of the region. And to justify this trust is my sacred duty. I can leave only by asking the people and the President of Russia. Therefore, we will leave the talk about indefinite leave for the future,” the head of Chechnya said in his video message.

He recalled that he has been heading the region for 15 years, but the record among Russian governors is 27 years. The “long-liver” is the ex-governor of the Belgorod region Evgeny Savchenko, who held this post from 1993 to 2020.

“I’m not the same as the “long-liver” – the previous record, as it turns out, is 27 years. Therefore, I will say more: now I have decided to go for breaking the current record. Let’s see if I can bypass this indicator,” said Ramzan Kadyrov.

On September 3, he recorded a video message in which he stated that his “time has come before they are kicked out.” In the Kremlin seen this is a statement. Mr. Kadyrov has already spoken about his possible departure in November 2017 and February 2016.
