The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, reacted to a security raid carried out in a prayer room in Kotelniki near Moscow. He called the incident a provocation and instructed State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov to deal with this issue in detail.

“I regard the unprofessional and defiant actions of law enforcement officials as a provocation in our rear with the aim of undermining the solid foundation of interethnic peace,” Mr. Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel. According to him, Mr. Delimkhanov “has already talked with the governor of the Moscow region and the head of the Russian Presidential Department for Domestic Policy.”

We are talking about a raid carried out during Friday prayers on July 7th. Members of the Muslim community said they used to pray in one of the premises rented by the local Muslim religious organization as usual. OMON officers burst into the Muslim center, located at 5/3 Dzerzhinskoye Highway, and behaved very rudely, did not allow the prayer to be completed, Mufti Rushan Abbyasov, head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Moscow Region, told Kommersant.

Kirill Kabanov, a member of the Human Rights Council, explained the conflict by the complaints of local residents and by the fact that “a religious organization should not be in a residential building.” The Ministry of Internal Affairs told Kommersant that the police had nothing to do with the incident.
