3 thousand former fighters of the Wagner PMC will join the Akhmat special forces together with a commander with the call sign Ratibor, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov said. According to him, the Russian Ministry of Defense has allocated the required number of vacancies within the unit. Mr. Kadyrov published a video in which the information was confirmed by the commander of “Akhmat” Apty Alaudinov and Ratibor himself.

“In the near future, all organizational issues will be resolved, and the fighters will be able to begin carrying out operational combat missions,” Mr. Kadyrov wrote in Telegram. In his opinion, the entry of former PMC fighters into Akhmat is “a strategically important step in strengthening the country’s defense capability and increasing the effectiveness of our unit.”

As the head of Chechnya noted, Ratibor was undergoing treatment for a long time due to injuries received during artillery shelling. He decided to return to the combat zone as part of Akhmat, “barely getting back on his feet.”

Mr. Alaudinov said in the video that the leadership of the Ministry of Defense approved the formation of a new regiment. Its commander will be Ratibor. “We will form the regiment from the personnel who previously served directly under his command,” said the Akhmat commander. He noted that separate battalions formed from former fighters of the Wagner PMC are already operating as part of Akhmat.
