Judge fines Trump nearly $1 million for unsubstantiated lawsuit against Clinton

A court in Florida has ordered former US President Donald Trump and one of his lawyers to pay nearly $1 million in legal fees to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her political team. Trump claimed they were conspiring against him, informs Bloomberg.
District Judge Donald Middlebrooks of West Palm Beach, Florida, said that Trump abused the judicial system because the ex-president went to court not for legal, but for political reasons. According to the judge, the lawsuit against Clinton “should never have been filed at all.”
“The failure of the allegations was clear from the start,” Middlebrooks said, adding that “no reasonable lawyer” would have filed such a suit.
As a result, the court granted Clinton’s counterclaim, in which she accused Trump of knowingly filing a lawsuit with false accusations. The former US president, his lawyer, and the law firm that handled the case were fined $937,000.
Trump filed sued Clinton in March 2022, demanding $70 million in damages from her. He accused the former US Secretary of State and her political advisers of trying to defame him during the 2016 election campaign. According to Trump, the Clinton team allegedly spread false information about his ties with Russia.
In 2016, Donald Trump won the presidential election, beating Hillary Clinton. In 2017, he was accused of links with Russia. A US intelligence report claimed “with a high degree of certainty” that Moscow interfered in the US presidential election. The Kremlin has repeatedly pointed out the unsubstantiated accusations.
