Journalist Roman Popkov added to the list of terrorists and extremists

Rosfinmonitoring has included the journalist and former leader of the National Bolshevik Party (NBP; banned in the Russian Federation) Roman Popkov into the list of terrorists and extremists. Supplemented registry published on the agency’s website.

The register indicates that Roman Popkov was born in the village of Grabarovka, Pogarsky district, Bryansk region. The journalist himself rejected this information. “I was born and raised in the city of Bryansk, where I am registered. I have never even been in the Pogarsky district in my life, ”he wrote on Telegram.

In early April, the Telegram channel Shot, citing a source, reported that Daria Trepova, accused in the case of a terrorist attack in which military commander Vladlen Tatarsky died, was recruited by Roman Popkov. The journalist himself confirmed his acquaintance with Daria Trepova, however assuredthat did not give her instructions. Roman Popkov emphasized that his mother and younger brother live in Russia, and therefore “it is difficult for him to command” such operations because of a possible threat to their safety.

Roman Popkov is a former editor of MBKh Media founded in 2017 by Mikhail Khodorkovsky (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) (blocked in the Russian Federation at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office). The online edition closed in 2021. Roman Popkov currently lives in Kyiv.
