Journalist Alexander Rybin was found dead in the Rostov region, the Rabkor portal reported. The reasons for the death of Alexander Rybin, who covered events in Africa and the Middle East, and was also a freelance writer for Lenta.ru, are not specified.
“Rybin was found dead near the highway near the city of Shakhty. His friend and mother report this. The cause of death is currently being established,” the statement says. Telegram channel “Rabkora”.
According to the publication, on December 30, Alexander Rybin got in touch during a stream from Mariupol. How he ended up in the Rostov region is unknown.
The journalist collaborated with a number of online publications in Russia and Tajikistan. In December 2023, Lenta.ru published Rybin’s material dedicated to SAVAK, the Iranian intelligence service during the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. As the portal notes Donnews, Alexander Rybin was an ethnographer by training, graduated from the Institute of History of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The journalist was also an associate of sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky (included by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the register of foreign agents), who in December was sentenced to a fine in the case of public calls for terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
