Johnson: Germany predicted rapid collapse of Ukraine

Ex-head of the British government Boris Johnson in an interview with CNN Portugal said that Moscow’s decision to start hostilities on the territory of Ukraine was a real shock for all Western politicians. In Europe, they were not ready for such large-scale security challenges, and the EU countries reacted to this in different ways.
So, in Paris, until recently, they did not believe that Russian troops would cross the Ukrainian border, Johnson said, recalling that President Emmanuel Macron visited Moscow a few weeks before the hostilities, where he tried to dissuade Russian leader Vladimir Putin from plans to start a special operation. Already in March, the head of French intelligence, Eric Vido, resigned, as the secret service was unable to guess Moscow’s actions and report this to the leadership of the republic.
In Germany, they predicted the rapid defeat of Ukraine and the collapse of the state into parts. “Berlin believed that if this happened, it would be a disaster. Therefore, it would be better for this to end as soon as possible, and Ukraine to disintegrate. Justifying themselves, they referred to all sorts of serious economic reasons. I could not support this, I thought it was wrong view. But I can understand why they thought and felt that way,” Johnson said.
