Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, during a debate in the committee of the lower house of parliament, said that China, in accordance with the agreements between Beijing and Kiev, gives Ukraine protection from the use of nuclear weapons against it, that is, Kiev is “under the umbrella” of Beijing.
“The joint statement released at the time said that China agreed to provide Ukraine with mutual security guarantees in the event of an invasion of Ukraine or the threat of an invasion with nuclear weapons,” Kishida said.
In December 2013, then-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Based on their results, a statement was made on the further deepening of strategic partnership relations. The Chinese side, in accordance with the provisions of Resolution 984 of the UN Security Council, as well as on the basis of the statement of the PRC government of December 4, 1994 on providing security guarantees to Ukraine, undertakes under no circumstances to use nuclear weapons or threaten to use them against Kiev.
The agreement stated that if Ukraine became a victim of aggression with the use of nuclear weapons, Beijing would support Kyiv in providing appropriate security guarantees.
