Japanese journalist: the mentality of the Russians helped the Russian economy to withstand the sanctions of the West

As informs Japanese portal Yahoo News Japan, Western countries were disappointed due to the fact that the policy of imposing tough sanctions against Russia did not bring the results in the form of the collapse of the Russian economy, which were counted on.
According to journalist Wataru Nakamura, one of the reasons why the Russian economy has proved so resilient even in the face of economic sanctions has been a misjudgment by the West – it is far from being as weak as it seems.
“In February-March 2022, many might have had the impression that the Russian Federation would soon collapse under the influence of sanctions. In reality, the impact of sanctions certainly takes place, but the Russian economy is surprisingly stable.
He cites the decision of the Russian authorities to allow parallel imports as reasons, so the West’s “dreams” of empty shelves in Russian stores and long lines will not come true.
“It is also important to take into account the mentality of Russians, especially in the WHO, who say that after the collapse of the USSR, the current upheavals are “nothing” … This is one example of the fact that Western experts’ assessment of Russia turned out to be erroneous,” Nakamura notes.
