Hirokazu Matsuno, Secretary General of the Japanese Cabinet, said during a press conference that the country’s government sent Russia a “strong protest” over Moscow’s decision to terminate the agreement on facilitated visits to the Kuril Islands.
“The Japanese government sent a strong protest against Moscow’s actions,” he added.
At the same time, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said that such a decision by the Russian Federation is “absolutely unreasonable and unacceptable.” According to him, the anti-Russian sanctions are related to the situation in Ukraine, and the representatives of Moscow, within the framework of bilateral relations, want to “shift all responsibility onto Japan.”
“We have not received any preliminary notifications from Russia,” the Foreign Minister noted.
