Japan protested to China over missiles that fell in the country’s exclusive economic zone. About it informs TASS.
“According to our data, five Chinese ballistic missiles fell in the exclusive economic zone of Japan. In this regard, the Chinese side was protested through diplomatic channels,” said Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that Beijing canceled a meeting between the Foreign Ministers of China and Japan in Phnom Penh due to the joint statement of the G7 countries on Taiwan. She noted that the statement contained distorted facts and justifications for US violations of China’s sovereignty.
On August 4, the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) began large-scale live-fire military exercises in six areas around Taiwan. They will last until August 7th. Later, the Taiwan Ministry of Defense announced 11 ballistic missiles fired by the army into the waters off the island. Hua Chunying called the exercises “a timely reaction” and “a warning to provocateurs.”
The Chinese authorities also insist that the events in the Taiwan Strait would have developed according to a different scenario if it were not for the visit of the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. According to an official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it was the actions of the American politician that aggravated China’s relations with Taiwan.
China has previously urged Pelosi to cancel a visit to the island. However, on August 2, the American politician went to Taiwan anyway, to testify there, she said, of US support for democracy. The White House said that Pelosi’s trip does not contradict the “one China” policy, which is also followed by the United States. China, on the other hand, believes that with this step, the United States grossly violated the country’s territorial integrity.
