Japan considers plan to bolster defenses with ‘constellation of satellites’

The Japanese Ministry of Defense is discussing a plan to launch 50 satellites into orbit, which are planned to be integrated into a “constellation of satellites” to detect and track hypersonic missile launches, as well as to collect other information, including for strengthening defense capabilities.
According to the Asahi newspaper, the plan will be included in the document on strengthening the defense capability between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2028.
Some of the satellites can be launched by private companies.
