January 4 – don’t go barefoot

January 4 in the folk calendar is Nastasya’s day. Mothers were honored on this day. They were exempted from any work, and men were engaged in all economic affairs.

According to tradition, on this day, gifts were given to relatives of the older generation, paying tribute to their family and ancestors. It was customary for mothers to give a towel with red roses embroidered on it, which symbolized the inexhaustible love between a mother and her children. For pregnant women, lean porridge was specially cooked to protect them from diseases and give them strength. And the pregnant women themselves embroidered special towels that should protect them during childbirth. It was impossible to talk about her pregnancy in order to avoid problems with childbirth. If a woman gave birth on that day, her relatives could not drink red drinks so that the woman in labor would not have problems.

There was also a sign that one should not walk barefoot on Nastasya’s Day, otherwise a person may lose his well-being, and if there are already problems with money, they will worsen even more.

Also, if you follow the signs, you can’t pierce your ears on this day – they will heal for a long time; you can not beat and offend animals – problems with the legs will begin; you can’t knit – otherwise someone close will start having problems with the law.

Folk signs on January 4 are as follows:

– if the clouds float against the wind – it will snow;

– if there are a lot of icicles on the south side of the house – the year will be successful for fishermen;

– if the sky is clear at sunset – January 5 will be warm and dry;

– if the snow is dry and light – the summer will be dry;

– what is the weather on this day, so will October.
