January 29 – put away the knives

January 29 in the folk calendar – Peter’s day or Peter-half-feed.
In the villages on this day, they again counted the reserves remaining until spring: will there be enough feed for the cattle, and flour for the household. According to signs, it was impossible to tell others about your calculations, otherwise the stocks could disappear.
Cellars and refrigerators today should not be empty, there should be at least a few supplies, better than a variety – then until the end of winter you will be full and prosperous.
On this day, bread and other flour products were treated with special reverence. Half-eaten bread was not thrown away, and even the crumbs were collected and fed to birds or street animals.
The bread itself was not cut, but broken by hand. They were also wary of using any cutting and piercing objects, especially those that resemble wolf fangs in shape.
It is impossible today to swear and quarrel, to scold other people and gossip, and also to believe gossip about other people. And also, according to signs, if you peep and eavesdrop on St. Peter’s Day, you can pay for your excessive curiosity with deafness or blindness.
The representatives of the weaker sex did not leave the house until they swept. It was believed that the more they collect garbage, the more happiness will be in the family.
Folk signs on January 29 are as follows:
– if the day turned out to be frosty – by the hot summer;
– if the wind blows from the north – to a cold snap;
– if the mole crawled out of the hole – it will be cold in May.
Dreams that you have on the night of January 30 can tell you about the outcome of important events that are currently taking place in your life.
