January 2 – Talk to your family

January 2 in the folk calendar is Ignatius Day. The tradition of this day is communication with relatives. You can invite relatives to visit or go to visit them. If this is not possible, you should at least call them or chat via video link.

It is worth listening to what others say and advise today – you can get advice that will help you cope with current or long-standing problems. There was also a belief that the more you say hello on this day, the more health you add to yourself.

Active preparations for Christmas begin: on this day they cleaned the house, brought beauty, stocked up food for the Christmas table. There is a sign that on Ignatius Day you need to throw away all the broken and “chipped” dishes – then there will be no problems and troubles in the house.

It was also believed that if you cook dishes with milk mushrooms on this day, you will be sad all year, and if there are peas, beans or beans in the dishes, you can squander everything that was acquired in a year.

This day is also called apple day. It was customary to shake off the snow from the apple trees in order to get a good summer harvest, and the weather on January 2 was used to judge what August would be like when apple picking began.

Folk signs on January 2 are as follows:

– if the sky is covered with clouds – to warming;

– if the tits chirped – to a cold snap;

– if severe frosts hit – the summer will be hot;

Dreams that are dreamed on the night of January 3 can be prophetic. But they will be fulfilled only if you tell someone about them. Therefore, if you have a bad dream, you should not talk about it.
