January 10 – cook with the whole family

January 10 in the folk calendar is Christmas meat-eater and household day. On this day, it was customary to cook meat dishes, mainly from pork, and arrange a family dinner in the evening.

Preparing dishes for the festive feast, as well as doing other household chores, was taken by the whole family. It was believed that this contributes to the preservation of well-being and prosperity in the house. And so that peace and tranquility reigned in the family, Thursday salt was added to the dishes.

Even our ancestors believed that if you make a common family wish on this day, it will certainly come true.

Special respect was shown to the oldest members of the family – they were surrounded by care, gave them gifts.

In addition, according to popular beliefs, it is good to have a wedding on this day – a family formed on Household Day will be strong, and the newly-made husband and wife will live a long and happy life.

Those who are oppressed by loneliness should “go out to people” on this day – go for a visit, take a walk in the park, visit a theater, museum or concert. Otherwise, according to popular beliefs, a person will not start a family for a long time or will live away from relatives.

There is also a sign that if you invite home and treat those who come to carol with something delicious, this will strengthen health and well-being, and also protect the house from the evil eye and damage.

There are many prohibitions that were customary to observe on this day. So, you can’t borrow money or food – otherwise you will spend the whole year in debt; you can’t do needlework and sew on buttons – fate will get confused and old problems will emerge; you can’t keep the windows open – so that happiness doesn’t leave the house; you can’t swear, quarrel, gossip – this will lead to big trouble; you can not take out the garbage – it threatens the family harmony.

Folk signs on January 10 are as follows:

– if the snow falls in large flakes – to warming;

– if the salt is damp – to bad weather;

– if a blizzard starts – the summer will be rainy;

– if there is a strong frost in the yard – by a hot summer;

– if the cat curled up in a ball and keeps closer to a warm place – to frost;

– if the dog lies on the snow – to a blizzard;

– if the sparrows chirped – to warming.

Dreams that occur on the night of January 11 may portend the future. However, they are often confusing, so it is important to decipher them correctly in order to get the information you need.
