Izvestia: the speed of mobile Internet in Russia fell by 7%

The speed of mobile Internet in February in all regions of Russia, with the exception of Moscow, decreased by an average of 7% compared to February last year, write Izvestia, citing data from TelecomDaily.

The measurements carried out showed that the speed decreased to about 18.3 Mbps. In Moscow, the situation is reversed: mobile Internet accelerated by 32% to 34.7 Mbps.

According to TelecomDaily CEO Denis Kuskov, such dynamics is connected with the shortage of network equipment that has arisen due to the cessation of supplies. If we compare the indicators in Moscow and throughout Russia, without dividing, then the fall is not visible, he stressed.

Operators, he said, tend to install new base stations in large cities, since there are the largest number of customers. In addition, communication difficulties in Moscow and St. Petersburg threaten the operator with image problems, while “no one will notice if the speed in a remote regional center drops by 20-30%,” the expert added. This means that the gap in the quality of Internet access may continue to widen, he warned.

In Mintsifra, notes the edition, did not fix slowdown of the mobile Internet. The speed of such a connection among the Big Four operators in Moscow increased by 18%, and in the regions – by 14%, they noted. During the first three quarters of last year, mobile Internet traffic in the country increased by 20%.

How wrote Earlier, Vedomosti, the government calculated the pace of implementation of 4G and 5G networks on Russian-made equipment. According to the plan, already in 2023, 100,000 people will be able to use communication services using 5G based on domestic solutions.

4G networks on Russian equipment will appear only in 2025 – then 6 million people will connect to them, in 2026 – 10 million people, and in 2030 – 100 million people. These indicators are included in the roadmap “Modern and promising mobile networks” for the period up to 2030.

Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Communications reported that all four federal telecom operators signed forward contracts for the purchase of Russian-made telecom equipment. We are talking about the supply of 70,000 domestic cellular base stations, said one of the sources of Vedomosti. Now several companies are engaged in the creation of base stations in Russia. In particular, the development of 4G and 5G base stations is carried out by Spektr of Rostec, 4G and 5G stations based on Open RAN by Skoltech. The creation of 2G, 4G and 5G base stations is also carried out by the Yadro vendor (KNS Group), which is part of ICS Holding, and the core of the network is Protey Research and Development Center.
