The Russian environmental operator (REO) will apply to the Ministry of Construction with an initiative that will prohibit the disposal of household and food waste into the sewer. The newspaper reported “News” with reference to the letter of REO to the Ministry of Construction.
Denis Butsaev, Director General of the REO, explained to Izvestiya that the waste in the sewer blocked the way for sewage and clogged the pipeline. According to him, this leads to additional costs.
On the morning of December 24, a pipeline collapsed at a wastewater treatment plant in Vorkuta. As the cause of the accident, the authorities named damage to the ceilings of the passage channel. Ecologists from the “Pechora Rescue Committee” asked the local authorities to introduce an emergency regime. According to them, sewage from the broken pipeline merged into the Vorkuta River, then reached the Pechora and further into the Barents Sea. The state of emergency was not introduced. Mayor Yaroslav Shaposhnikov January 11 declaredthat wastewater is not released into water bodies.
