Italy freezes the assets of Russian businessmen for 2 billion euros

Since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, Italy has frozen the assets of Russian businessmen for 2 billion euros, reported Reuters agency with reference to the Central Bank of the country.
We are talking about bank accounts, real estate, yachts and cars. The head of the Central Bank of Italy, Enzo Serata, also added that financial assets of 330 million euros associated with 80 individuals were frozen.
Against the backdrop of a special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation, and also froze Russian assets abroad. Yesterday, July 3, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said that the amount of frozen Russian assets in the EU after the start of the military operation in Ukraine is 207 billion euros. Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the blocking of 300 billion euros of reserves of the Central Bank of Russia and 19 billion euros of private funds of Russian businessmen.
On June 21, Bloomberg, citing an EU report, reported that the union did not find legal grounds for the complete confiscation of the frozen assets of the Russian Federation. It was noted that the EU is considering several options for using more than 200 billion euros of assets of the Bank of Russia in order to send them to Ukraine.
In April, the G7 foreign ministers Deal keep Russian assets frozen until the conflict in Ukraine is over. The Kremlin called the freezing of Russian assets a theft and promised to take action.
