Italy deprived Gref and nine other Russians of state awards

The Italian government has decided to deprive ten Russians of the country’s state awards for “inconsistency with the rank.” Such decisions are contained in three decrees signed by Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the suggestion of the country’s Foreign Ministry, they published in the state press organ of Italy Gazzetta Ufficiale.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko and Evgeny Ivanov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Alexei Gordeev, head of Sberbank German Gref, head of RDIF Kirill Dmitriev, chairman of the board “Gazprom oil” Alexander Dyukov, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) Alexander Shokhin and businessman Andrey Melnichenko.
In addition, Melnichenko’s yacht, worth more than 500 million euros, was previously detained by the Italian government. The Italian authorities previously also deprived the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
All the listed Russians were previously awarded various degrees of the Order of the Star of Italy in the period from 2015 to 2020. It is awarded for merit in the field of interstate cooperation with Italy.
