The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said that he considers it right that his son Adam beat Nikita Zhuravel, who is in a pre-trial detention center in Grozny in a criminal case for burning the Koran. According to Mr. Kadyrov, “it would be good if he killed him.”
During the live lines with residents of the region, Ramzan Kadyrov said that he discussed with his son possible criminal punishment for beating Nikita Zhuravel. 15-year-old Adam, according to Mr. Kadyrov, replied that he “would consider this punishment an honor.”
“Why punish him? Because he beat the man who burned the Koran? It would be good if he killed him. I have one wish when I remember those who burn the Koran. One dream is for them to be punished,” said Ramzan Kadyrov. Commenting on the multiple awards that were awarded to Adam after the beating of Nikita Zhuravel, the head of Chechnya said that his son “showed heroism in his years.”
Ramzan Kadyrov added that Nikita Zhuravel, during their conversation, asked for forgiveness for what he had done and declared his desire to convert to Islam. “If a person has apologized and taken the right path, then we are ready to forgive him in our own way. And so, I did not see sincerity in his eyes,” concluded Ramzan Kadyrov.

On May 20, after the publication of a video of the burning of the Koran in the area of the Cathedral Mosque in Volgograd, a criminal case was opened for insulting the feelings of believers (Part 2 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In this case, local resident Nikita Zhuravel was detained, who stated that he carried out “the action at the direction of the Ukrainian special services for a reward of 10 thousand rubles.”
Initially, the case was investigated by employees of the ICR department for the Volgograd region, but then the materials were transferred to the investigation department of the department for Chechnya. The reason given was, among other things, “numerous appeals from residents of the Chechen Republic with a request to recognize them as victims.”
