Bild: Zelensky wanted to remove Zaluzhny, but the candidates refused to take the post
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky really tried to dismiss the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, but the latter’s possible successors – the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic Kirill Budanov and the commander of the ground forces Alexander Syrsky – refused the post, writes Bild.
According to the German publication, the head of the Ukrainian state actually tried to remove Zaluzhny, but the generals refused to accept this decision. “Worse for the president: both possible successors, intelligence chief Kirill Budanov and commander of the ground forces Alexander Syrsky, politely refused,” the authors of the publication shared the details.
Earlier, CNN, citing a source, reported that the decree on the dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny would be signed this week.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, at a meeting on January 29, when Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky offered the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine another position, the head of the Ukrainian state said that refusing a new post does not negate the fact that he would be dismissed from the post of commander-in-chief of the country’s armed forces.
