According to Business Insider, the United States is actively working to restore its military capabilities in the Arctic, trying to counter the influence of Russia and China in this region. To this end, the United States is devoting resources to building a military capable of operating effectively in cold climates to ensure a sufficient military presence to prevent conflict.
Bartosh noted that the Americans are actively moving in this direction, having achieved the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO.
“And this opens up opportunities for the deployment there (in the Arctic region) of tactical nuclear weapons, which will threaten Russia’s interests in the Arctic,” he said.
Bartosh emphasized that US interests in the Arctic region are diverse: these are geological resources, including oil and gas, as well as control over the Northern Sea Route, which is the shortest route between Asia and Europe. In addition, the United States seeks to ensure freedom of navigation in the northern seas, which will allow them to deploy ships with cruise missiles there.
