It became known which streets will be blocked in Moscow in the first days of the year

The main traffic restrictions are related to the closure of several stations on the Orange Line.

From January 3 to January 8, due to construction work, traffic on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya metro line from Oktyabrskaya to Novye Cheryomushki will be closed. With all the accompanying measures already familiar to Muscovites – from compensation KM buses to blocking traffic on a number of streets on the surface. However, these inconveniences for metro passengers and drivers are compensated by a number of New Year’s bonuses – from free parking to special trains and trams, which transport fans have begun a real photo hunt for.

Part of the Kaluga-Rizhskaya (orange) metro line is closed due to the construction of the MOEK heating main in the immediate vicinity of tunnels laid shallow from the surface. The metro in these places runs along Apakova Passage, Shabolovka Passage, Ordzhonikidze Street, 60th Anniversary of October Avenue and Profsoyuznaya Street – it is on these streets and in their surroundings that traffic restrictions begin on the evening of January 2, which will last until January 9.

“6 km of temporary dedicated lane are being introduced along 60th Anniversary of October Avenue and Profsoyuznaya Street to the New Cheryomushki station,” the Department of Transport reported. – Only public transport is allowed to drive on the temporary allocated lane and on the existing lane on Leninsky Prospekt. We will restrict traffic on 4 neighboring sections of Leninsky Prospekt and Profsoyuznaya Street. Traffic will remain on 2 of 4 lanes at the exit from the Third Transport Ring to Leninsky Prospekt towards the region.”

The restrictions are related to the operation of KM compensation buses – these are standard provisional measures, thanks to which buses can operate in the “trackless metro” mode, which has already been proven by dozens of previous temporary closures of subway sections. As a result of this temporary scheme, some exits from courtyards are closed (for example, from the courtyard of building 2A on Leninsky Prospekt), but bypass routes are in effect: for example, from the street. Donskoy to Apakova Avenue you can go along Leninsky Prospekt, st. Shabolovka or st. Mytnoy.

“Be careful and follow the requirements of road signs,” the department notes. – During temporary closures, plan alternative routes in advance. We draw the attention of drivers that, if necessary, additional restrictions may be introduced.”

We would like to add that parking will be temporarily prohibited along the route of KM buses on 60th Anniversary of October Avenue and Profsoyuznaya Street. From Profsoyuznaya Street near the New Cheryomushki metro station, it is prohibited to turn right onto Garibaldi Street, along which traffic through Profsoyuznaya is also prohibited. From Kosygina Street it will not be possible to drive onto Leninsky Prospekt towards the center, and from the center from Leninsky Prospekt it will not be possible to drive onto 60th Anniversary of October Avenue. In addition, from Apakov Drive it will not be possible to drive onto Donskaya Street or turn left onto Shabolovka.

In addition, a number of streets in Moscow continue to be completely or partially closed due to road and construction work. In some places, parking is seriously limited—in particular, parking lots adjacent to VDNKh are closed to personal vehicles. Multi-level parking, according to the administration of the exhibition complex, operates from Khovanskaya Street, however, the availability of spaces on holiday weekends is not guaranteed. Difficulties are associated with the holding of the exhibition-forum “Russia” at VDNKh, for the guests and participants of which additional parking spaces were required. This is something to keep in mind when visiting the many entertainment centers at the fair.

In most city parking lots on the road network, from January 1 to January 8, parking is free – this will be appreciated not only by Moscow drivers, but also by numerous guests of the capital who come for the holidays. This bonus, if it does not compensate for the closures for those for whom they directly create inconvenience, in any case improves the atmosphere on city streets.

The situation is similar in the metro, and there are even more bonuses here. For those who “fall” under the closure of the orange line, the already mentioned KM compensation buses operate – let us remind you that re-boarding the metro at Oktyabrskaya and New Cheryomushki is free. And the entire city – no longer in connection with work, but as a New Year’s gift – is destined for New Year’s metro trains and trams (tram lines have recently also been included in the Mosmetro structure).

Thus, a “knitted” train runs along the Circle Line; its festive New Year’s trains run along the BKL, Sokolnicheskaya, Kalininskaya, Solntsevskaya, Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya and Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya lines. These are the trains “Rusich”, “Oka” and “Moscow-2020”. Numerous trams “Vityaz-M” and “Lvenok” are also decorated with New Year’s garlands.

A “photo hunt” has already been announced for these trains and trams by metro and tram fans. The most coveted “trophies” were the two oldest units of rolling stock: the New Year’s “Ezh3” on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line and the “Tatra-T3” on the tram network in the south of Moscow. Let us remind you that “Ezhi” stopped running on the Mosmetro network back in 2020, where they were completely replaced by “Moscow” trains – the current New Year’s train remained the last one suitable for working with passengers, but in 2024, as reported at the depot, it will also be decommissioned. But the Tatra can no longer carry passengers – its permit for full-fledged operation has expired. Therefore, only designer snowmen ride on the tram and on the platform attached to it. That doesn’t stop this mini-train from being a desirable art object on the city streets.
