Council of the International Skating Union upheld the removal of Russians from the competition
The International Skating Union (ISU) announced on its official website that the decision to exclude Russian and Belarusian figure skaters, speed skaters and short track skaters from participating in international tournaments, adopted on March 1, 2022, is still in force.
The ISU Council is currently meeting in Budapest to discuss IOC recommendations on the admission of Russians who did not support the ISU as neutral athletes to the competition. However, the Board decided to explore potential ways to implement the IOC recommendations.
A RIA Novosti source said that the issue of admitting Russian skaters to adult tournaments will most likely be postponed until October, when the next meeting of the ISU Council will take place.
It is noted that the situation with juniors will certainly be resolved faster.
The decision to remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from participation in international tournaments was made by the ISU board against the backdrop of events in Ukraine. They have been suspended until further notice.
