Researchers from the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics and the Solar X-ray Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences made a mistake when estimating the power of the magnetic storm that covered the Earth on November 5. This is stated in the ISPF statement.
It is reported that scientists incorrectly calculated the power and speed of the plasma flow emitted by the Sun. It is indicated that the emission coincided with a weak solar flare.
At the same time, ISTP noted that the final observations still do not explain “how such a weak cause could cause a storm of the observed level.”
On the evening of November 5, residents of the southern regions of Russia could observe bright red flashes in the sky, which were a type of northern lights. Residents of European countries saw the same phenomenon.
