The Office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli Foreign Ministry issued a joint statement. It says Israel is monitoring events in Dagestan and expects Russian law enforcement to protect Jews.
“Israel expects Russian law enforcement agencies to protect the safety of all Israeli citizens and Jews, wherever they are. They can act decisively against the rioters and against the wild incitement directed against Jews and Israelis,” the statement said.
The report also said that Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alex Ben-Zvi is working with Russian authorities to ensure the safety of Israelis and Jews.
Today a crowd of several hundred people with anti-Semitic slogans got ready at Makhachkala airport, where the flight from Tel Aviv arrived. Protesters chanted “Allahu Akbar” and slogans in support of the Palestinians. A group of protesters then forced their way onto the runway towards the plane.
Law enforcement officers and squads of the Russian National Guard arrived at the scene. Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan excited a criminal case under the article on mass riots (Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
