Israeli Foreign Minister refuses to meet with UN Secretary General

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that after the attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel on October 7, he will not meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
“I will not meet with the UN Secretary General. After October 7, there was no room left for a balanced approach (to resolving the conflict – Vedomosti). “Hamas must be wiped off the face of the earth,” he wrote in X.
At a UN Security Council meeting on the crisis in the Middle East, Cohen criticized Guterres, pointing out the numerous Israeli casualties due to Hamas.
“Mr. Secretary General, what world do you live in? This is definitely not our world,” he said (quote according to Times of Israel).
Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority Riyad al-Maliki, in turn, expressed regret over the inaction of the UN Security Council to stop Israel’s “massacre” in the Gaza Strip, the publication notes.
On the morning of October 7, the Gaza-based Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, striking hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The government of the Jewish state announced that the country had entered a state of war. According to the latest data, about 6,500 people were killed as a result of the fighting, including 5,087 from the Gaza Strip.
On October 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Israel had suffered an unprecedented brutal attack from the Palestinian group Hamas and had the right to protection. At the same time, the Russian leader called for the creation of an independent Palestine as part of the “two-state” concept in the region.
On October 20, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Ben Zvi said that the decision to launch a ground operation in Gaza had been made. He did not give exact dates, specifying on October 22 that the Israeli military was ready to begin a ground operation. On October 23, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced a “deadly” attack that would include an offensive from land, sea and air. At the same time, the IDF promised to cancel the planned operation in Gaza if the Hamas militants free the hostages and lay down their arms.
