Israeli army calls for reservists due to Hamas attack

The Israel Defense Forces are on alert in response to rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip and infiltration of militants into border areas. About it it says in an IDF post on the Telegram channel.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a massive call-up of reservists, The Times of Israel reported.
The number of reservists called up will depend on the needs of the military. Gallant declared a state of emergency within a radius of 80 km from the Gaza Strip, his office also said. In addition, the Israel Defense Forces decided to block roads near the border with the Gaza Strip.
“Over the past hour, the terrorist organization Hamas has launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel, and terrorists have entered Israeli territory in a number of different locations,” the IDF said.
Israeli media reported that civilians were being taken hostage. Dozens of people were injured, an elderly woman died as a result of the rocket falling.
They added that the Chief of General Staff is now “assessing the situation and approving plans for the continuation of IDF activities.”
Opposition leader Yair Lapid said “Israel is in an emergency situation” and vowed to support a “robust military response” to the coordinated Hamas attack.
Earlier, the military reported that air raid sirens were going off in multiple locations in southern and central Israel, including Tel Aviv and its suburbs.
