Israel has decided to launch an offensive in the Rafah area of Gaza.
As reported by Bloomberg, member of the Israeli military cabinet Benny Gantz announced the decision of the country’s authorities to begin a ground operation in the Rafah area in the Gaza Strip if Hamas does not release all the hostages being held by March 11.
On this day, the holy Muslim holiday of Ramadan will begin, the publication notes.
“If the hostages are not released by this time, Israel will launch a ground offensive in the Rafah area… Hamas leaders have a choice – to surrender, release the hostages, and thus Gazans will be able to celebrate the holy holiday of Ramadan,” Gantz said.
He stressed that the Israeli military intends to make efforts to evacuate Gaza civilians. This work is planned to be carried out in coordination with US and Egyptian forces in order to minimize civilian casualties.
