Islamic Jihad militants said they fired at Jerusalem in response to the breakdown of the truce, TASS reports.
The military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group announced the launch of missiles at Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Beersheba, Ashdod and Ashkelon. The group said in a statement that the strikes were carried out in response to the massacre of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
On the morning of December 1, the Israeli military accused the Palestinian Hamas movement of violating the pause in hostilities, after which they resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the pause in hostilities also ended on December 1 at 7.00 (8.00 Moscow time), despite preliminary information, it was not officially extended.
The official representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said that the organization calls on Israel and Hamas not to resume fighting in the Gaza Strip. Dujarric noted that the resumption of fighting will only worsen the already deplorable situation in the region. According to him, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is disappointed that fighting is taking place in Gaza again.
