Irina Podnosova recommended to the president for the post of head of the Supreme Court

The Presidential Commission recommended the candidacy of Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) and Chairman of the Judicial Collegium for Economic Disputes Irina Podnosova for the post of head of the RF Supreme Court, a source in the commission told Kommersant.

“By the decision of the commission, Irina Podnosova was recommended to the President for presentation to the Federation Council for appointment to the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia,” a source told Kommersant.

The commission also reviewed candidates for the positions of judges of federal courts submitted for consideration by the head of state. Decisions were made regarding 432 candidates for federal court judgeships.

Irina Podnosova was born on October 29, 1953 in Pskov. In 1975 she graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University with a degree in jurisprudence. Since 1990, Ms. Podnosova has successively held the positions of judge of the Luga City Court of the Leningrad Region. Later she became the chairman of this court, and then the deputy chairman of the Leningrad Regional Court and its head. In July 2020, she took up the position of Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. During her work as chairman of the economic college, she participated in the preparation of two bills, 13 resolutions of the plenum of the Supreme Court, 17 reviews of judicial practice, and also considered 11,700 cassation appeals.

The post of Chairman of the Supreme Court became vacant on February 23, when Vyacheslav Lebedev, who had held it since 1991, died. The duties of the chairman of the Supreme Court were assigned to the first deputy, Petr Serkov.

On April 1, the High Qualification Board of Judges (HQJC) recommended Irina Podnosova for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court. The decision was made unanimously.
