Irina Podnosova is being considered for the post of head of the Supreme Court – Kommersant

The head of the Judicial Collegium for Economic Disputes, Irina Podnosova, and the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) became one of the possible candidates for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court, they write “Vedomosti” with reference to sources. The newspaper notes that the final decision has not yet been made, as the collection of applications continues.

One of Vedomosti’s interlocutors said that Ms. Podnosova’s appointment would be “the most logical,” since she has long been known in the judicial community. According to another source, “the good thing is that she is a person from the judicial system.”

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy Artem Kiryanov said that Irina Podnosova has a reputation as a serious lawyer. He added that the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Mrs. Podnosova, initiated draft laws that amount to the decriminalization of crimes of an economic nature.

The publication notes that Irina Podnosova worked as a judge in the Luga City Court of the Leningrad Region since 1990 and became its chairman in 2003. She also headed the Leningrad Regional Court and the Second Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction. She took up her current positions in 2020.

24 February died Chairman of the Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev. According to Kommersant, the cause of his death was oncology. Mr. Lebedev has served as Chairman since 1991. The new head of the Armed Forces will be appointed by the Federation Council for a period of six years on the proposal of the President of Russia.
