The Higher Qualification Board of Judges announced that on April 1 it will consider the application of the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) – Chairman of the Collegium for Economic Disputes Irina Podnosova to recommend her as a candidate for the position of Chairman of the Supreme Court. Mrs. Podnosova turned out to be the only contender for the position. Details of her biography are in the Kommersant certificate.

Podnosova Irina Leonidovna was born on October 29, 1953 in Pskov. In 1975 she graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University. According to media reports, she was a classmate of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She began her legal career in 1975 as a consultant in the justice department of the Leningrad Oblast Executive Committee. In 1978, she became a lawyer at the Volsky construction products plant in the Saratov region. Since 1979 – legal adviser, senior legal adviser, head of the legal department of the Volsky city trade of the Saratov region. Since 1990 – judge, and since 2003 – chairman of the Luga City Court of the Leningrad Region. From 2002 to 2012, she was a member of the Council of Judges of the Leningrad Region, including twice as chairman of this body (in 2006–2008 and 2010–2012). In 2013, she became deputy chairman of the Leningrad Regional Court, and headed it in 2017. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Council of Judges of the Russian Federation.

In 2018, she was appointed chairman of the Second Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction: due to the age limit (70 years), 65-year-old Irina Podnosova was appointed for a term of five years instead of the prescribed six. Since July 24, 2020 – Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia, Chairman of the Judicial Collegium for Economic Disputes, Co-Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council, Member of the Presidium of the Supreme Court.

According to the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Artem Kiryanov, in her post, Ms. Podnosova was the initiator of bills leading to the decriminalization of economic crimes.
