The Iraqi prime minister’s plane landed at Vnukovo-2 airport. He was met by the special representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Bogdanov and the Russian Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev.

On October 10, negotiations between al-Sudani and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place. They will also communicate in the format of a working breakfast, noted the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov. The next day, Putin and al-Sudani will take part in the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week.

In the Kremlin clarifiedthat during the negotiations the parties will touch upon the development of Russian-Iraqi cooperation and discuss the situation in the Middle East. Iraqi Foreign Ministry reportedthat Putin and al-Sudani will sign several agreements and memorandums of understanding.

During a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin said that Russia has “very good relations” with Iraq. He added that the countries have many issues of mutual interest, including in the areas of energy and economics. In particular, we are talking about logistics, the president said, noting that there are several options for the development of transport routes across Iraq. Putin noted that the meeting will also address issues of regional security and security within Iraq itself.
