The Iraqi government is initiating the process of withdrawing the international military coalition from its territory, writes Reuters.
“The government approves the start date for the work of a bilateral committee that will take measures to end the presence of international coalition forces in Iraq on a permanent basis,” said the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.
The decision was made in response to an American airstrike on Baghdad, as a result of which the commander of the Harakat An-Nujaba military group, Mushtaq al-Jawari (Abu Taqwa), was killed, journalists note. Six more people were injured.
There are currently 2,500 US soldiers in Iraq.
