Iranian soccer player sentenced to 26 years for participating in protests

Iranian footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani has been sentenced to 26 years in prison, France-Presse reports.
Nasr-Azadani was sentenced on three different charges, which influenced the final verdict. According to investigators, he was involved in an incident that resulted in the death of three members of the security forces in Isfahan province on 16 November. Also, the player was found guilty of complicity in “mohareb” – “hostile to the Almighty activities.”
According to local law, Nasr-Azadani will serve prison terms at the same time. The player will thus be behind bars for 16 years.
The 26-year-old player last played for Iran’s Iranjavan.
