Deputies of the Iranian Majlis (parliament) supported the military operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” of the Hamas group against Israel, and adviser to the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei congratulated the Palestinian militants, media reported.

“Parliament members, at the beginning of their evening meeting on the occasion of the unprecedented operation of Palestinian resistance groups, declared their support for this action of the Palestinian Mujahideen,” reports the Iranian Tasnim agency.

According to Tasnim, Iranian lawmakers chanted “Down with Israel,” “Down with America,” and “Welcome Palestine” during a parliamentary meeting.

The Times of Israel, citing the ISNA agency, also writesthat a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei supported Hamas’ attack on Israel, calling it an “operation of pride.” He also congratulated Palestinian fighters and promised support “until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.”

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani also welcomed the Palestinian attack on Israel. According to him, the operation “marked a new page in the field of resistance and military action against the occupiers,” and it achieved “brilliant victories.”

“This operation used the element of surprise and other combined methods, which show the confidence of the Palestinian people in the face of the occupiers,” he said.

The Palestinian group Hamas began firing rockets at Israel in the early morning hours of October 7. The reason for the launch of a “military operation” against Israel called “Al-Aqsa Flood,” according to the leader of the military wing of the movement, Mohammed ad-Deifo, was the occupation and repeated Israeli incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The IDF responded by announcing a military operation against the Palestinian militants “Iron Swords”. Israeli aviation and artillery began striking the Gaza Strip even before the official announcement. It later became known that the Israeli air force carried out strikes on 17 military targets and four command centers of the Hamas terrorist group in the Gaza Strip.

As a result of the hostilities, according to official data, dozens of Israelis were killed and more than 700 people were injured. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was at war and promised the enemy would “pay the price.” Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir declared a state of emergency in the country.

Gaza Strip health officials said 198 Palestinians were killed in the airstrikes. Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri told Al Jazeera that the group was holding a large number of Israeli captives, including senior officials.
